Building Opportunity and Schools in Afghanistan

Evan Mai, chief operating officer of Prosperity Real Estate Investments Inc., and his wife Ellen founded a charitable organization called Developing Opportunity, which helps build educational facilities in Afghanistan. Recently, the organization used $3,000 in donations to build a library/first aid building at a small school in Olti Kwaja in Northern Afghanistan.
Previous donations had started construction on six new classrooms for the school as well. The school in Olti Kwaja was built 38 years ago as a one-room primary school. Today, the school educates 750 children - 350 girls, 400 boys - ages 7 to 17.
Developing Opportunity also purchased 750 bags filled with three notebooks, one pen, one pencil, one eraser and a small box of colored pencils each.
"The small amount of money we were able to take literally changed a village. The school library and first aid center will be open to the entire town of 6,000 people," said Ellen Mai.
